Take a Bite out of this statistic

One BILLION toothpaste tubes end up in landfills every year. Seriously, one billion. I believe it though, we go through tubes toothpaste faster than I would like to admit. Now if you haven't noticed, I have been on a sustainability kick lately. I am trying to find small changes we can make in our day to day lives that may have a larger impact in the world than the slight inconvenience I may face.

So, I decided to try Bite toothpaste to see if we could cut down the plastic coming out of our bathroom.*Disclaimer my goal is to try these sustainable products and give you my honest review. These companies aren't giving me a check to advertise their product. I simply feel we should get the word out about sustainable products. *
Here is my honest review of Bite toothpaste. Day one, I ran to the mailbox, got the package, and brushed my teeth right away. The first thing I liked was the ease of not having to decide how much toothpaste to use. I don't know about others, but that seems to be a problem in our household. We run through toothpaste so quickly because that pea sized portion the dentist recommends, never seems to be enough.
So I put the tablet in the back of my mouth, took a bite, wet my toothbrush and started brushing. I'm not going to lie, it was dry, like really dry. It was like gritty chalk in my mouth at first. My fiancé described it as putting a toothbrush in your mouth with only the residue of toothpaste on it. So that was a con. A con that I'm not sure I will be able to get over, but I bought a 4 month supply so you better believe I'm going to try.
Anyways, after maybe five seconds of brushing it started to foam and feel like the toothpaste we all know and love. In fact I was shocked about how much bubbles and foam it created following a dry start. It felt pretty natural at that point. Then it was time to spit. This was fine, but I've never been someone who needed to swish water in my mouth after brushing my teeth. But after this brush, my mouth felt so dry I needed a rinse.
The last con I will give it, although I ordered a fresh mint flavor, the flavor was so minimal I don't feel like it could combat my morning breath. I need something strong with a great scent to leave me feeling fresh and ready to take on the day. I've been using the toothpaste for the last five mornings and I wish I could say I'm happier than ever. But like I said, I'm not going to lie to you all. This is a sustainable product I don't know if I will keep using. The difference in how clean my teeth feel is just too much for me. I am going to continue to give it a go until I run out, but I feel like I needed to do my due diligence and let you all know that not every sustainable product is going to work for your lifestyle. AND THAT'S OKAY! We are trying to make small changes for a big impact. We are not trying to flip our lives upside down in a way that will make us unhappy.
As sad as I am that this product didn't work out for me, I encourage people to continue thinking outside the box. I want to try more sustainable products! Possibly even more sustainable toothpaste. I'm not against the concept, I am honestly so amazed that they were able to make something this cool. I think it's simply a work in progress to best fit everyones lifestyle.
